Aaron’s work is a journal, a documentation of the people and places through his experience. The choice of everyday people creates an honest documentation of modern life through the details, surfaces, objects, textures and clothes of the subjects. His paintings capture the essence, beauty and authenticity of normal, day to day life through a series of visual narratives that combine portraiture and landscape in detailed, energetic and strong compositions. His portrait work is highly influenced by the western portrait artists of the 19th and early 20th century.
화가 아론 코스로우의 작업은 미국인의 시각으로 기록한 서울이다. 일상에서 마주하는 평범한 인물들과 그의 생활세계가 한 편의 기록으로서 작품 속에 세밀하게 구성되어 하나의 작품을 이룬다. 그의 그림에는 반복되는 일상이 자아내는 짙은 아름다움과 진실성이 숨김없이 묻어난다.
화가의 작업은 이웃들의 삶을 관찰하고, 그 안의 정수를 찾아내 화폭으로 옮기는 과정이다. 하루 하루의 반복이 켜켜이 쌓여 시간이 묻어나는 물건들은 그의 작품에서 정밀한 묘사를 통해 하나의 공간을 완성하는 시각적인 이야기로 바뀐다. 이 작업을 통해 그림 속 인물들의 가장 진실하고, 속일 수 없는 참모습을 담아내며, 옷과 사물, 표면의 질감들을 통해서 현대인의 삶을 하나의 작품으로 구성해 낸다.
아론의 작품은 미술사적으로 서양의 19-20세기 초상화 작가들에게 강한 영향을 받았다.
